After observing Barry work with Canada Basketball’s age group National Teams in 2016, it became very clear to me as a senior leader in Ontario Basketball that engaging our staff in such a session would provide us with a lot of individual insight, as well as assist in our overall understanding of our working relationships, consequently improving staff morale and staff functioning. Since our staff session we have had Barry work directly with our top U17 Canada Games teams, as we recognize the importance of athletes’ individual understanding of themselves as well as teammates understanding of one another in order to effectively leverage the strengths and weaknesses of a team to achieve a common goal, such as winning gold at Canada Games. Our U17 boys did win gold and our U17 girls won silver. This was due in large part to the profiling and teambuilding work we did with Barry prior to the Canada Games. Participating in Barry’s profile session as a staff was a fun, informative, personal, and team-based learning opportunity that I would highly recommend for any sports team, staff or group looking to achieve a common goal.
